Covering Modern Outdoor Furniture with a fabric furniture cover protects the chair from the elements, or creates a decorator’s look for your patio. The project requires basic sewing skills and some supplies are available at fabric and craft shops. Choose a vinyl wax cloth to protect your furniture or a washable decorator fabric in a medium weight for a decorative lid that you can sit on.
Instructions
Measure the length of the patio chair, from the floor in front of and across the seat and back to the floor behind the chair. Measure the patio chair width from the edge of the right armrest to the edge of the left armrest. Measure the side length of the patio chair, starting from the floor below the right arm and over the arm to the top of the chair seat. Measure the side width of the patio chair, from the front arm edge backwards to the outermost rearward point.
Increase Outdoor Furniture body length and width measurement with 2 inches for seam allowance. Sketch the measurements on a paper to draw a visual pattern to sew the lid. Cut the patio chair cover with sketching and measurements. There will be three pieces; one body piece and two arm pieces. Hang the cover piece over the chair and pin the arm pieces in the appropriate place so the right side is together. Remove the lid and sew the arm to the body with a 1/2-inch seam to create a “T” cover form.
