Before choosing furniture for your bedroom, consider the purpose and size of the room. Are you going to watch TV in the bedroom? If so, you will need a device to hold TV. How about reading in bed? In that case you will need a good lamp and probably a side table. You might also want some kind of chaise longue. If the room is large you can choose almost any type of furniture, from the elegant modern to detail ornate. If the room is small, stick with clean, traditional lines in furniture and choose smaller scale options so the room does not feel crowded.

Dressing the bed

When choosing bedding furniture, find the most luxurious you can afford. Your bed should give you the utmost comfort. In big rooms, almost any pattern or color goes. Consider, however, that one bedroom should be soothing. Soft blues, gray, creams and sage green produce a sense of calm. Bright colors should be avoided, unless you decorate a child’s room. Even there depending on what effect strong colors may have on a child who is supposed to be sleeping. In small spaces, it is best to stick with monochromatic colors and subtle patterns. Add complementary pillows to your bedding to give your bed a finished look.
