Place a large, light carpet on the floor if your floor is dark. Put the bed against a wall that opposes the door, if possible. You want the bed to be the first thing you see when you walk in. It makes the white bed in focus in the room and will keep it from preventing the flow into the room. Place white side tables on each side of the bed, so that at least 6 inches between each furniture if possible. The distance keeps the wall the bed is further from the feeling too dark by allowing the bright walls to look.
Put your black chest of drawers in a closet, if possible, to keep too many dark pieces from being in the room. Otherwise place your chest on the largest wall that is not already occupied by furniture. Add accents like pillows, vases, curtains and art in bright, clear colors to help counter the black furniture. Keep accents of the same color family as the color of your walls. For example, if you have light blue walls, choose accents in colors like blue-green, purple and different shades of blue.
